Amazon Flex Delivery Dangers – Dogs

We love dogs here at Flex Swag. If you’re like us you may not immediately perceive them as a threat when you start delivering for Amazon Flex. However dogs do indeed bite delivery people. We have experienced it on more than one occasion. We suggest new drivers, even the dog loving types, keep a look out and be prepared for dogs on customer’s property.

Here’s a few tips and suggestions on how to avoid contact with them on the job.

The Bag’n Drop:

If you encounter a loose dog and don’t feel comfortable getting out of the car. One of the ways to complete the delivery is the Bag’n Drop method. What you do is put the package in a bag, roll down the window, and place the package nearest to the door as you can from the car. Only do this if you feel the package will be safe where you drop it. It’s good to write Amazon on the bag as well so that it doesn’t get mistaken for trash.

The Signs to look for:

Most of us instinctively know if a dog is not to be messed with. Remember this can change in an instant. One of the things to look at is the tail. Between the legs, stay in the car. Wagging tail and it might be OK to get out.

Small Dogs Bite Too:

I had to learn this one the hard way. Just because a dog is small doesn’t mean it wont bite. Those little shits will go for you’re ankles. It’s easy to dismiss smaller dogs but they too can be aggressive towards strangers.

What to do if a dog is being aggressive:

We’ll leave that to the experts. There’s an excellent article here. Avoid these situations by always looking out for dogs before exiting the car.
