Lets face it some drivers are just really terrible. It doesn’t matter how much High Vis or right away you have, they’re still going to jump out in front of you. Could high visibility clothing keep us safe from these maniacs?
The answer is absolutely YES! Take a look at these stats from The Bureau of Labor Statistics:
Holy Moly! Do you see that “Driver/sales workers and truck drivers” count? That’s us guys. That’s us Flexers, we are working on the road for long hours at risk of being hit by other motorist when getting in and out of our vehicles. Not to mention we’re often fatigued and in a bit of a rush.
So… Should we wear high visibility gear while Flexing. I would certainly recommend it. I always either wear my high visibility vest I got from the warehouse or my Carhartt High Vis hat. It’s acrylic and really super comfortable.
Is the protection worth looking like a goof? and is high visibility clothing goofy looking? I mean yeah. It definitely can be, like the fellow in the first picture above. When it’s over done, certainly high vis can look ridiculous.
However when it comes to safety and letting customers know your intentions as a delivery driver. Nothing says “I’m here working” like a piece of high visibility clothing without you ever needing to say a word. High Vis undoubtedly saves the lives of road workers, and when you think about it, we fit into that criteria.
