UPS and Amazon Flex drivers like to give each other a hard time. It’s all in good fun. We hope that UPS teamsters get the increased rates they demand and that a strike won’t occur. However we cant help but to see the opportunity here. Since the majority of Amazon Prime packages are handled by UPS, the potential strike could mean a lot more work for us.
The end of July:
If UPS cannot reach a deal with the union by July 31st an estimated 250,000 drivers will go on strike. UPS spokesman claims that “UPS is confident in our ability to reach an agreement that meets the needs of our employees and the business”. Saying that “The recent strike authorization by the union does not mean a strike is imminent.”
While not imminent the threat of a strike is real. Logistics companies like FedEx, DHL, and Amazon will have to prepare for a potential increase in volume. Obviously this will mean more work opportunity for Amazon Flex drivers.
Be Ready, Take Advantage:
By the end of July if UPS drivers do go on strike I imagine there will be opportunity for increased rates. Amazon has to get those packages out and it wont hurt them financially to utilize Amazon Flex even at the rate of $25 an hour. With a loss of over 200,000 UPS drivers, demand for delivery will skyrocket. Blocks will surge and money will be made. Be ready to take advantage.
