A whole lot of words and legal jargon. Amazon Flex independent contractor Terms of Service, is it worth reading? Yes. There’s some interesting bits of information relevant to all Flexers. Such as termination policy, use of “third party” apps, and more.
Here’s one bit we found particularly interesting:
B. As an independent contractor, subject only to this Agreement, it is for you to decide the means and manner in which to provide the Services and achieve the results that you have agreed to provide. Therefore, in performing Services, you are free to map out your own routes, sequence your deliveries and in every other way control the means and manner in which you deliver Deliverables.
The means and manner:
Means – An action or system by which a result is brought about.
Manner – A way in which a thing is done or happens.
You are literally your own boss as an Independent Contractor. In fact, we should stop calling ourselves “Amazon Flex drivers”. It’s against the Terms of Service:
You have no authority to bind Amazon, and you will not make any representation identifying yourself as an employee of Amazon or make any representations to any person or entity that you have any authority to bind Amazon as an employee, partner, or otherwise.
Terms of Service TLDR;
Amazon has all the rights and we as Independent contractors have very little. Not surprising. Our right to the means and manner in which to provide the Services, is key. Don’t get pushed around. Read the ToS. Become an enlightened driver.
