Amazon has finally found a way to keep poor people out of rich peoples neighborhoods. Flex drivers with their average or below incomes driving around wealthy gated communities, what an outrage! Introducing Amazon Scout, keeping poor people out of rich people’s neighborhoods since 2019™
But.. It’s so Cute!
It is really cute. A non-threatening little machine indeed. Reports say it will travel at walking speed and is the size of a small cooler. So it could carry about a six pack but not a whole case of beer.
Obviously this thing will not be replacing delivery persons anytime soon. The cargo capacity of the robot and the travel speed leads me to believe it will be serving a very specific demographic.
Don’t be surprised the next time you pull up to one of these and the Amazon Flex app asks you to put the package into one of those cute little scout robots. Amazon Scout, the mailman for the wealthy.
Should Flex Drivers be Concerned?
Absolutely not. We all know those little robots are never going to make it in the average American (not-gated) neighborhood. There’s just way to many variables. First off the side walks are no where near perfect, then you take into account people messing with them, robot getting knocked over, you name it. When it comes to scout, I am in doubt. In fact, as stated earlier, I think us Flex drivers will be the ones loading these things.
Good on Amazon for trying new things, and good luck to little Scout. Just don’t make me break out my little friend!
