The One Package at a Time Rule

Amazon Flex can be very overwhelming at times. Sometimes a driver may want to break down into tears or just give up and return all of their packages. It can be a lonely job where we don’t have anyone to motivate or encourage us. In this post I want to talk about dealing with those stresses. These can creep up on even the most seasoned drivers, and when we’re frustrated we’ll likely make more mistakes and be less polite.

In this gig it’s on us to maintain professionalism. We don’t have a boss around to correct it. I believe this is why we see so many videos of drivers caught on camera tossing packages and acting a fool. They’ve lost their way, they’re mad and frustrated at the job and we’ve all been there.

One at a time

As drivers who often have to put up with a lot of shit, how do we deal with it? First we have to stop taking things personally. If people are showing disrespect to us, that’s on them. If you end up with the shittiest route in existence, take it one package at a time and do your best. Most importantly don’t forget to breathe. Deep breaths all day. Let that frustration go and move on to the next package.

Remember you wouldn’t want your package treated poorly. Sometimes you may not give a shit about the customer or their packages. The last 10 deliveries may have been apartments with no entry codes, you had to spend an extra hour calling the customers. Then someone was rude to you. Now you’re all worked up, to hell with these customers and their packages!

No.. well yes.. but no. Take a deep breathe, realize that some people are just rude assholes. You can’t change that. Move on to the next package and deliver it with the respect you’d expect with your own packages.

Laugh it off

Anytime I get frustrated or have angry thoughts about the job I just start to laugh it off. I find myself laughing a lot throughout the day. There are many frustrations to be had in this gig. It’s actually pretty funny when you learn to laugh it off. I find it’s important to deal with the frustrations in a healthy way, or they’ll compound and eventually a snowball effect of frustration will accumulate and mistakes on the job will happen. Got to keep a clear head as a Flex driver or it can break you.

Unbreakable

Amazon Flex is a good gig.. right? Why else would we be doing it. If you want to keep the gig long term, you’re going to have to find a way to cope with the frustrations the job will bring multiple times each day. Don’t let it snowball and creep up from behind you, knocking you over. Got to breathe, laugh, be playful, meditate, or whatever it is that you do. Just don’t forget to do it and never be broken.

Appreciate it, flex on!
