The Amazon Flex Car Magnet Dilemma

If you’ve driven for Amazon Flex then you’ve likely seen the magnets on some of the drivers cars reading “Amazon Flex” complete with Amazon logo’s so that it looks official. Actually though, these car magnets are not official, despite the obvious demand, Amazon has never made or given these to drivers. The best they can do is a small window sticker. The big car magnets come from third parties usually sold on eBay or ETSY.

There’s always been two sides to the Amazon Flex car magnet dilemma. On side believes that they’re a must have when making deliveries. It puts customers at ease and they’ll be able to know immediately what your business is on their property without needing to approach you. The other side says that rocking a car magnet is like having a big advertisement for porch pirates. If a group of package thieves were to spot your car they could tail you and then steal the packages you just delivered.

Both of these scenarios are true. As someone who has driven with and without an Amazon Flex car magnet I’ll share my experience.

Do the Pro’s Outweigh the Con’s?

Car magnets make you seem more official. In my experience, it does result in less strange looks and questioning. Although the magnets themselves are third party knock-offs and anyone can buy them. Customers do seem to assume that if you have one then you are in-fact a delivery person and not some random person pulling up on their driveway.

Personally I have not received an increase in package thievery on my routes as a result of having an Amazon Flex car magnet. Or as the nay-sayers would put it, “A giant advertisement for porch pirates”. Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but during my 4 years of Amazon Flex’n (mostly logistics) I’ve only had a total of about 6 “package not received” claims.

I bought my magnet during the first year of doing Flex and used it for 4 long years. It’s in real beat up shape now. To the point where I can’t stick it to the car so I just lay it on the passenger side dashboard. From my experience I can confidently say that the pro’s outweigh the cons when it comes to rocking an Amazon Flex car magnet.

Should You Buy One?

This is another part of the whole dilemma with these car magnets. You’re going to have to pay out of pocket because Amazon does not offer them to Flex drivers. I do believe that the magnets are worth buying. If you’re going to be driving Amazon Flex a lot you could consider it an investment, maybe write it off in taxes.

If you’re experiencing lots of strange looks and questioning while delivering and it bothers you, then getting a car magnet may be a good decision. In my experience, having one does alleviate these experiences and you’ll likely have a smoother going block with a big Amazon Flex advertisement slapped onto your car.

Where to Get?

I’m choosing not to add links to the magnets here because this post isn’t meant to be an attempt to affiliate market you into buying a magnet. One common seller that drivers use and that I have used and been happy with is called Old School Signs.
