So you want to be a Flex driver? In this article we will show you how and cover some frequently asked questions we get asked on the road.
FAQ:
- Do they have drug tests?
- No.
- Do they compensate for gas?
- No. You pay it.
- Do they provide insurance?
- Yes. While you are working you have coverage with Amazon.
- Do they have schedules?
- No. Routes are typically first come, first served.
- How long are the routes?
- Anywhere from 2 hours to 5 hours. Depending on vehicle.
- Can I do it full-time?
- Yes it can be done but Amazon Flex was designed to be a part time gig.
- Do I have to work holidays or weekends?
- No. As an independent contractor you work when you want.
- What is the pay?
- Starts at $18 an hour. Some blocks include tips. Depending on demand the base pay may go up. Highest I’ve seen with surge is $25 and hour.
Great! How do I get started?
First you’ll need to download the app here: https://flex.amazon.com/lets-drive
Then go ahead and open it up and you’ll be prompted with a sign in. You’ll use your Amazon account for this (the same one that you use to shop on Amazon):
Then you’ll need to answer some questions like the days that you want to deliver and your preferred time ranges. Select all of them and heart your top ones.
Then you’ll be asked to fill out your vehicle information. Once you’re done with all of the questions you’ll see this:
How long will the wait-list take?
This is an age-old classic question asked by new Flex drivers. It can take anywhere from 1 day to several months. The key is to be patient and check the Flex app regularly. Amazon will send you an email looking like this:
Once your wait is over, in the Flex app you will see a message saying “We are excited to welcome you as a new Amazon Flex delivery partner”. Congratulations! Welcome to the Flex driver family!
Then you’ll be asked to watch the training videos (pay attention to them). Then you’ll be asked to fill out personal information like social security, bank, drivers license, etc.
Once you submit all of your info Amazon will run a background check. This will take about a week or less. Once complete you’re officially an Amazon Flex delivery partner and ready to schedule a block.
Summary
It can take awhile to get started with Amazon Flex. It’s best to get on the waiting list now so that when they start taking new drivers you’ll be sure to get in. If you’re able to pass a background check, have a drivers license, and a phone then you should be all set.
