Real Driver Amazon Flex Tips 2025

So you want to do Amazon Flex in 2025? Welcome to the trenches baby!

Just kidding.. it isn’t THAT bad. In fact, Amazon Flex can be a great gig if you go into it with the right mindset. First off, it isn’t going to make you rich and you will have struggles along the way.

With the right mindset and realistic expectations, Amazon Flex can help cover your bills—and, as countless drivers have discovered, it just might be the best gig in the game.

I’ve been driving Amazon Flex for over 5 years and have been heavily involved in Flex driver online communities. In this post I’ll give you the scoop, the top 10 best tips from real Amazon Flex drivers. Lets get into it.

Top 10 Tips for Your Trips

Just leave the packages at the door!

When I first started Amazon Flex I was WAY too concerned about packages being stolen. I would go out of my way to hide them and.. as you may have guessed, the customers couldn’t find them. This resulted in me receiving many “Customer did not receive” reports from Amazon. Nearly ending my Amazon Flex career early.

Think about it.. when your packages get delivered you expect them to be right outside your door, right? You don’t expect it to be hidden somewhere.

This isn’t a treasure hunt! Just leave the packages at the customers door.

Don’t go out of your way to hide them and don’t worry about them getting stolen. That isn’t your problem. Just leave them at the front door and go.

Get a good phone holder for your car

Imagine you have 40+ packages to deliver. You’re going to be getting in and out of your car A LOT and you’ll be navigating to each individual address. Your phone will be going in and out of it’s holder and you don’t want to be fiddling with it each time. Get yourself a good and sturdy phone holder where you can easily place and remove it. Trust me, this time will add up if you don’t. You’ll have enough frustrations along the way. Don’t let your phone holder be one of them.

Bring water and snacks

You’re going to get fatigued on the job. If you’re running on pure coffee alone you’re going to have a bad time. Bring water and snacks to keep your energy up. See here for what drivers recommend: https://www.tiktok.com/discover/what-to-eat-as-a-delivery-driver

Bring a positive attitude

It may sound corny but having a positive attitude will help a lot. You’re about to be driving unfamiliar neighborhoods for 2+ hours, getting in and out of your car, hauling boxes, trying to find addresses, etc. It’s going to wear you out physically. Don’t let it wear you out mentally! Take a deep breath. Expect that inconveniences will happen, expect the worst and hope for the best.

Download offline maps

Download your areas offline maps before you go out on your route. You don’t want to end up in the boondocks with no navigation. This has happened to me several times and my offline maps saved the day! Be sure to download your offline maps just in case. See here for how to do it on Google Maps.

Get an Amazon Flex vest

You might think it looks dorky but it’s recommended to wear your Amazon Flex vest so that people can tell why you’re walking up to their property while delivering. You might think the Amazon packages would be a dead giveaway but no.. even with the vest you’ll get some strange looks like “Who TF is this coming up to my house RN”. Ask for a vest at the warehouse if you don’t already have one. They’re free and actually kind of nice with Amazon Flex branding on them.

The key jiggle trick

Before entering any kind of fenced in yard jiggle your keys to alert any dogs that may be in there. This way you’re not taken by surprise by a dog which could then trigger them to chase. Do not rely on customers to report that they have a dog! Amazon has a feature where customers can report dogs on the property but many of them will not do it, never rely on that. Always scope out for dogs before getting out of your car and use your best judgement if it’s safe.

The bag and drop method

If a customer does have a dog and you don’t feel that it’s safe but you still want to deliver that package and not have to make a return trip to the warehouse, here’s a method that worked for me. Bring large clear bags with you, put the package inside of it and leave it on the customers driveway from outside of your car window. This way you avoid exposing yourself to dogs. Of course.. use common sense when doing this and make sure you can drop the package close to the house so it doesn’t get stolen.

Car magnets

If you’re going to be doing Amazon Flex a lot then getting magnets for your car is a good investment. It can help put customers at ease when they can see that you’re a delivery driver from a distance as you pull up to their property in your personal vehicle. Not everyone is aware of how Flex works and that drivers use their own cars to deliver packages. They see your Toyota Corolla and think “Who TF is this pulling up.. oh hell no! cocks shotgun”. Or at least.. those are the kind of thoughts you’ll be having while delivering to rural areas. A magnet that says “Delivery Driver” can help put you and customers at ease and result in a smoother delivering experience.
