Have you ever bought one of those ‘beds in a box’ online? Like Casper or Purple. I have and when you do they usually give you 30 free nights to try it out. If you don’t love it, you can return it for free. But here’s the thing, these mattress brands can’t resell a used bed. Or at least.. it’s probably not worth it for them.
Instead, they use a service like Sharetown who uses independent contractors to pick up the beds, store them, clean them, and list them online for resell. This is where you come in. If you have a large vehicle or a trailer you can sign up to become a Sharetown rep and start reselling these like-new used and very in-demand mattresses and split the profits with Sharetown.

Sound like an interesting side hustle? I thought so, and I’m in the process of getting approved now. Let’s dig in more on how it all works.
The Hustle
The Sharetown side hustle works like this. First, you need to fulfill a few requirements:
- Have a large vehicle or trailer
- Be 18+
- Have people to help you move large items from homes
- Store, clean, and list the items online (Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc.)
- Communicate with interested buyers
- Handle the sale in person
If that sounds good to you then the first step is to go to the Sharetown website and get signed up as a rep: https://www.sharetown.com/earn-with-sharetown
You’ll enter your info there and then they’ll do a background check. I’m still in the background check phase so I’m not sure exactly how it goes after that. Based on the training videos they showed it will be pretty similar to Amazon Flex.
Once approved you’ll get access to their app where you can accept pick-ups. You accept one and go to the place to pickup the mattress. You put it in your vehicle and store it somewhere. You clean it up and then list it online for sale. Then you wait for someone to come and buy it. Once sold Sharetown takes their cut and you keep the rest of the profit.
The Catch
It sounds simple enough but if you’ve ever sold anything on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace then you know it can be a hassle. You have to deal with a lot of messages, lowballers, and flaky people. But that’s just a part of the game.
Also you’ll need someone to help you move heavy items, Sharetown also does workout equipment along with mattresses. So you’ll likely need to pay a helper. Just like with Amazon Flex the wear and tear on your vehicle will be your problem.
Otherwise, it seems like a good side hustle if you fit the requirements and have somewhere to store a large mattress for awhile.
The Profits
Average profit per flip is around $200. As a newbie if you go hard and make it part-time (9 deliveries per month), you could pull in around $2,225 per month. That is, if there is enough demand in your area.
If you live in a large city and are willing to hustle hard, you could make some serious cash.
Conclusion
Sharetown has a lot of potential as a nice side hustle that could even become a full time gig if your area has lots of demand. People have mattresses and workout equipment that they want out of their house. Sharetown hooks you up with them and you go and pick it up and resell it. It’s easy money as long as you have the ability to put in a bit of physical labor.
Stay tuned to the blog! I’ll post about my first pick-up once I get approved.
Appreciate it. See you in the next one!
