Amazon Flex WTF Wednesday – White Vans?

WTF Wednesday – White Vans

What are those guys in the white vans doing and how does it differ from Amazon Flex?

Lets find out.

Imagine with me for a moment if you will. Lets say we have a single individual, we’ll call her Sally, and she’s an Amazon independent contractor. Sally either owns or has leased several vans, and she’s agreed to use those vans to deliver Amazon packages. Sally can’t drive all the vans herself, so she hires people to help. What we end up with here is a “White Van” company, or more accurately, a delivery provider.

Compared to the lowly Flex driver, delivery providers have many more strict requirements that they must meet. First they’ll need access to vans with 300 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Next they have an obligation to train their drivers. Lastly delivery providers must be responsible for their employees, carry commercial insurance, and have all the required business licenses. That’s quite a bit of overhead to get started as a delivery provider. More info here: logistics.amazon.com

Put simply, we can think of the White Vans as basically Flex, only on a much larger scale. And with all kinds of rules and big business jargon. Those white vans, they took our jerbs!

High Turnover Rate:

It’s rumored that White Van companies have a rather high turnover rate. Imagine doing Flex for 8-10 hours a day in a big’ol white van, with a boss to answer to. Yeah no thanks, we’ll stick with Flex. On the plus side, they’re always hiring.

Keep Flexing my friends and don’t let the White Vans take err jerbs! Get out there and show Amazon that Flex is the best! White Vans… boo.
