Who got bit?!
This is the question many drivers are asking after being spammed by Amazon about dog safety. Suddenly Amazon Flex has become dead ass serious about dogs while delivering.
Dog dangers are nothing new to drivers. Up until this point Flex drivers have been on their own. We wrote an article about it here back in 2018.
Calling Support
No.. Amazon.. just no. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Does Amazon really expect drivers to contact support every single time they encounter a dog? To cover their ass legally, yes. In reality they should know that drivers won’t do it. Calling support is a hassle, it takes 10-20 minutes, that’s a lot of time with 40+ packages to deliver. On rural routes drivers will encounter many dogs.
So what is a driver to do? Back in 2018 we spoke about the Bag’n Drop method. Of course, we’re not encouraging you to go against what Amazon says but as drivers we know damn well nobody is calling support every time they see a dog.
Amazon has issues
Seemingly Amazon only takes incentive to help drivers after an incident or a potential danger is brought to their attention publicly. Like that time Ice-T tweeted about almost busting a cap in a driver, then shortly after Amazon issued official vests for Flex drivers. As if drivers weren’t pleading for Amazon to issue branded vest before this. No, it took someone famous to make the issue public for them to finally take action.
We wrote about the issue of dogs in 2018, so Amazon can’t deny that drivers have long been concerned about these dangers. In 2019 a pregnant Amazon Flex driver was bit by a dog. Here we are in 2021 and Amazon is suddenly dead ass about the issue.
It’s sad that many drivers immediately ask the question “Okay.. who got bit?” because they know that that’s what it would take for Amazon to finally take action. We don’t know if that’s what happened but nobody would be surprised if someone recently got bit or Amazon lost in a lawsuit regarding a delivery driver and dog bites. That’s what it would take for Amazon to do something.
Meanwhile.. drivers are telling Amazon exactly what the issues are but since they don’t have an Ice-T level Twitter following it goes unheard. It’s time to listen to your drivers Amazon. Be proactive and take action BEFORE a famous person raises the issue or somebody gets hurt.
Appreciate you. Be safe and Flex on!
